American-German Relations: From Partnership in Leadership to War in Ukraine

Thursday, March 21, 2024
at 4:45 p.m.

You can get 3 OZN points for participating in this event.

Where?

Dobra 55, room 3.014
(the building features some mobility accommodations: ramp and lift)

Who?

Political scientist educated at Louisiana State University, former Fulbright Scholar. Assistant professor at Lazarski University. Analysts and columnist for several outlets. Author of publications in the field of foreign relations and political thought. In the years 2018 – 2021 served as the first secretary in the Polish embassy in Berlin and a project manager for Stiftung Genshagen (a foundation dealing with Weimar cooperation).

What?

The relations between the two largest economies of the West are crucial for global security and stability. Nevertheless, this relationship is fraught with distrust and dissenting voices on both sides. From the American point of view, Germany’s Russian policies have undermined the former model of “partnership in leadership”. From the German point view Donald Trump’s rhetoric and politics have largely undermined USA’s credibility. The lecture will try to outline the historical roots of the complicated relations between the two countries as well as focus on the recent debates surrounding the war in Ukraine. In the final part I will strive to project several likely scenarios for further development of those relations.

April 29: Feminism and Gender Representations in Buffy the Vampire Slayer

April 23, 2025

Join us for a lecture by Agata Zygardowicz on Buffy and her iconic impact on American television: “Feminism and Gender Representations in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” Buffy the Vampire Slayer occupies a significant space in the history of feminist media, portraying themes of 1990s third-wave feminism, postfeminist aesthetics, and television genre for teens. This lecture examines how the series both reflects and critiques feminist ideals, offering a protagonist who is emotionally vulnerable, fashion-conscious, and physically powerful at the same time.
