Dr Anna Kurowicka received a NAWA Bekker scholarship, which will fund a 6-month long research stay at the Humboldt University in Berlin. A flagship program of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA), the Bekker Program promotes international mobility of researchers and PhD students. Dr Kurowicka will work with Prof. Elahe Haschemi Yekani of HU’s Department of English and American Studies, a specialist in postcolonial studies. The aim of the project is to use Indigenous and postcolonial theories of sexuality to develop non-Western conceptualizations of asexuality.

Join us for a lecture by Agata Zygardowicz on Buffy and her iconic impact on American television: “Feminism and Gender Representations in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” Buffy the Vampire Slayer occupies a significant space in the history of feminist media, portraying themes of 1990s third-wave feminism, postfeminist aesthetics, and television genre for teens. This lecture examines how the series both reflects and critiques feminist ideals, offering a protagonist who is emotionally vulnerable, fashion-conscious, and physically powerful at the same time.
