Bob Dylan, considered as "the voice of a generation" for his influential songs from the 1960s, has won the Nobel Prize for Literature in a surprise decision that made him the only singer-songwriter to win the award.

The 75-year-old Dylan - who won the prize for "having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition" - now finds himself in the company of Winston Churchill, Thomas Mann and Rudyard Kipling as Nobel laureates.

Dylan's songs, such as "Blowin' in the Wind," "The Times They Are a-Changin'," "Subterranean Homesick Blues," and "Like a Rolling Stone" captured a spirit of rebellion, dissent and independence.

Awarding the 8 million Swedish crown ($930,000) prize, the Swedish Academy said: "Dylan has the status of an icon. His influence on contemporary music is profound."

Swedish Academy member Per Wastberg said: "He is probably the greatest living poet."

Good job Bob!

The Wasp

wasp /wɒsp/ AmE /wɑsp/ noun [C] 1 a black and yellow flying insect which can sting you: There’s a wasps’ nest in that old tree! 2 when translated into the language of the beautiful country where the weather is schizophrenic and where refugees do not wish to go (see: Poland), it becomes an osa - a place where all meanings collapse: Yesterday, I spent an amazing day at OSA! (here: an abbreviation for Ośrodek Studiów Amerykańskich, English: American Studies Center)

We Are Students with a Purpose. We Are Students in Pursuit of happiness, to which we have unalienable rights. In the city upon a hill we sunbathe in our freedom of speech. We trust ourselves, for our heart vibrates to that iron string.
Two journals diverged in a star-spangled wood, and we took the one less traveled by, in order to stop the long train of intellectual and creative lethargy, which has poisoned the souls of the many.

A SCribbler

Less formal, breezy, students' initiative to reflect upon American current issues. Reviews, commentaries, etc.
